International English for Call Centres has been recognised as highly commended by the HRH Duke of Edinburgh ESU English Language Awards 2009, landing its authors and representatives from Macmillan Publishers India an invitation to Buckingham Palace.
The ceremony will take place on November 6, 2009 and as always the certificate will be presented by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, the president of the English Speaking Union.
This year’s success by Barry Tomalin and Suhashini Thomas has been designed to improve communication skills for those who work in the call centre industry or who deal with the UK both over the phone and face-to-face. It is the only one of its kind on the market.
Macmillan is not shy of ESU award success and once again the international publisher impressed a panel of respected judges with the substance and originality of its title. Previously highly commended Macmillan works have included Uncovering CLIL (2008) and 500 Activities for the Primary Classroom (2007).
Rajiv Beri, Managing Director for Macmillan Publishers India said: “We’re absolutely delighted that the ESU committee has praised the excellence of this book. Not only does it teach essential language skills for those working in call centres but it also covers other important areas such as culture and empathy. It’s certainly a book that many workers can benefit from, not just in India but all over the world.”
