Welcome to The 'Macmillan News' Archive
'Macmillan News' was a company newsletter published at irregular intervals between 1962 and 1991 with the aim of keeping the members of the rapidly expanding group of publishing companies informed of significant news activities and developments at home and overseas.
It contained regular reports from Australia, Asia, America & Africa and the UK, on publishing activities and new ventures, as well as social activities. There were features on company history, including celebrations to mark the centenary of Nature in 1969. The newsletters record new developments, the launch of new imprints and series such as Macmillan Crime, and Macmillan Master Series, annual events such the Macmillan Prize for Children's Picture books, changes in operating systems and computerisation.
The series of newsletters charts the development of the company during this period and offers a fascinating insight into the history of Macmillan.
Each newsletter has been scanned as a PDF file and is searchable using keywords. For help on keyword searching see Search tips.
In order to view a PDF you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. Some of the newsletters are quite large and may take a few minutes to download.
