Macmillan announces the creation of a specialist division to offer technology
solutions and business services to the publishing community
Macmillan is delighted to announce the formation
of a new company – Macmillan Publisher Services (MPS) which will work closely
with Macmillan India Ltd, one of its offshore operations bases, to create
quality, flexible and cost effective technology solutions and business services
that will facilitate scholarly communication.
MPS aims to be the first choice for quality publishers and societies seeking an
independent partner to deliver a broad range of support services. MPS are unique
in this sector in being able to offer:
-
Industry knowledge from the publisher’s
perspective
-
More than 30 years of client-based operations
management experience in India from typesetting and data capture through
web design and development services, meeting publisher needs
-
UK/US based account management and project
management
Jayne Marks, Managing Director of Macmillan
Publisher Services says:
“MPS provides a real opportunity for publishers to focus on publishing and
building relationships with authors and readers, while MPS delivers the services
needed to support the core publishing activities”.
Macmillan already has a successful track record in providing value-added
services to publishers through Macmillan Distribution Limited, which currently
provides a broad range of services for over 50 publishers, and Peninsula
Production and Distribution, Macmillan’s print-buying operation in the Far East,
which serves a number of third party clients.
Richard Charkin, Chief Executive of Macmillan comments:
“In the tough global climate in which we all operate today, it is essential that
publishers offer maximum value to their stakeholders. We believe the time is
right to launch Macmillan Publisher Services to serve the needs of the
publishing community in a cost effective way, using the talent and experience
developed within the Macmillan Group in the US, the UK and India since the early
1970’s”.
One of the principles on which MPS is built is a strong customer focus and early
client involvement. MPS is currently looking for a range of publishing clients
that will benefit from early involvement in the development process, and that
will help shape an exciting range of products and services.
