Macmillan Medical Communications (MMC) launches the first collaborative medical news website

Macmillan Medical Communications (MMC) is proud to announce the launch of Dissect Medicine (www.dissectmedicine.com), the first collaborative medical news website.

Launched as a joint initiative with Nature Publishing Group’s medical journal division, Nature Clinical Practice, Dissect Medicine is a collaborative medical news website, which indexes and ranks international medical news. It spans general interest articles to basic research and is the first of its kind.

Dissect Medicine users submit news items for review with tags and keywords. These are then ranked by the user group. This ensures that only the most relevant and influential articles are displayed as headline stories. In order to participate registration is needed but the service is completely free.

Macmillan Chief Executive Richard Charkin comments, "I am excited that Macmillan Medical Communications with its sister company Nature Publishing Group are grappling with the latest internet developments and adapting new publishing techniques for the core audiences that they serve. There is a huge demand and appetite for medical news especially online and the launch of Dissect Medicine is a direct response to the growing need for relevant information from multiple sources to be openly accessible, indexed, and highlighted."

The Dissect Medicine website has been designed with clinicians, healthcare professionals and the general public in mind. Hundreds of news items on topics related to diseases, clinical practice and biomedical research are already indexed on Dissect Medicine and the site already has a dedicated and growing following.

Multiple language editions of Dissect Medicine are being developed in languages including Japanese, German and Spanish.
