Macmillan Publishers Ltd are holding a party for Chris Paterson at the time of the London Book Fair, to celebrate his 37 years with Macmillan.
In thirty seven years, Chris served in leadership positions in the U.K. in Pan Macmillan, Nature, The Macmillan Press, and recently in
Macmillan Education. His main contribution was in international publishing, particularly to our worldwide growth in education and to the
making of our leading positions in Southern Africa and China. A divisional director since 1978, Southern Africa Chairman since 1983, and
a director of Macmillan Publishers since 1989, he was Chair of the P A International Board from 2000 to 2005. He contributed significantly to
The New Palgrave: A Dictionary of Economics (1987), the S. A. school edition of Nelson Mandela’s Long Walk to Freedom (1996), Asian
publication of Chris Patten’s East and West (1999), the launch of The Macmillan English Dictionary (2001), and the best selling New
Standard English for China (2002). He would like to thank all his colleagues, especially those overseas, for their generous support
over many years.
Chris fully expects to continue his international publishing activities and his interests in international business development in Asia
and Africa.
His contribution and experience will be greatly missed and we wish him well.
