Macmillan has all the advantages of a large, international company in marketing, production, distribution, finance and purchasing in print and online. Its different divisions act as a network of independent publishers, united in their commitment to quality publishing. We strive to support our authors as effectively and efficiently as possible and are committed to building the best possible relationships; our aim is to be authors' publishers of choice.
Books
It can be very difficult to get a book published unless you have an agent, and research shows that less than 1% of unsolicited manuscripts sent to publishers achieve publication.
Pan Macmillan UK (including Macmillan, Macmillan Children's Books and Picador) does not accept unsolicited submissions of non-fiction, children's books (including books written for young adults), poetry, short stories or novellas. The exception is with fiction, where Macmillan New Writing accepts unsolicited manuscripts of first novels, if submitted according to strict guidelines.
The Pan Macmillan writer's area has been designed to help anyone with a burning desire to put pen to paper.
Author submission guidelines for Pan Macmillan Australia can be found here. They are extremely selective in accepting works for publication, so only works of the highest level of originality and market appeal can be considered.
Macmillan Education takes very seriously its commitment to providing individual editorial support and attention to all of its authors, and its commitment to consulting with them on every aspect of their books. Often working in regions or countries of publication, Macmillan’s authors are experts in their field, with a true understanding of the customers – the teachers and students.
